Here Comes the Grace

Some rambling words on this Ramadan Eve.

Here comes the grace

         and energy sublime,

the divine embrace

and the sacred time.

Here comes the hunger,

the battle of will,

the struggle against self,

the communal goodwill.

Here comes renewal

of spiritual might,

during those precious jewels,

of Ramadan nights.

Now comes the grace,

the forgiveness, compassion,

when God might erase

our regrettable actions.

There goes the hunger,

the will is defeated,

now comes the passion

in prayers repeated.

Now comes the energy,

the sincere pleading,

the daily devotion

to religious reading.

Now come the tears,

now come the sorrows,

now come the worries

of infinite tomorrows.

Now come the fears

of the raging fire,

of the eternal damnation

to which we might retire.

Now comes regret,

now comes self-hate,

now comes the begging

for an undeserved fate.

Now come the promises,

the commitments guaranteed,

and pledges of devotion

to undeniable creed.

Here come the vows,

here comes conviction,

the steely determination,

the bold predictions.

Here comes breakfast,

the morning of Eid...

there go the plans

of gargantuan deeds.

There goes the hunger,

the will, resurrected,

that connection to God

now lies unconnected.

There go the promises,

there go the plans,

there go commitments

cried into cupped hands.

But, now, again...

Here comes the grace

and energy sublime,

the divine embrace

and the sacred time.

Here comes forgiveness,

a chance once more,

to remember what's forgotten,

and faith to restore.

Here comes the grace

and energy sublime,

the divine embrace

and the sacred time.

Ramadan Mubarak everyone! Don’t waste it.
